Zamorra Engineered Wood Flooring Installation Guidelines

 OAK,Brushed, NATURAL OILED(ABCD)

When fitting an Engineered wood floor the following pointers must be taken into account……..

Site Conditions:

The following moisture readings should be recorded prior to installation. These should be taken at the survey and if possible on the day of installation.

Ÿ  Stabilized temperature                               Not less than 13°c Max 20°c

Ÿ  Relative Humidity                                       40 – 60%

Ÿ  Moisture content of sub floor                   5% and decreasing in concrete

Ÿ  Moisture content of Walls                         8% Maximum

Ÿ  Timber flooring/Floorboards                     10 – 12%

Please note that a new concrete screed will dry out at a rate of approximately 1 inch (2.5cm) per month. This means that a new screed 6 inch deep will take approx six months to dry.

Remember that all wet trades must be completed and have left site prior to installation.

The site must be weather tight with heating tested and in full use.

Engineered floors should be laid straight from the pack. Only open one pack at a time.

 Sub-floor:

When fitting to a sub-floor other than battens (Screed, ply, chipboard, hardboard etc.) the sub base must conform to BS 8204 Part 1 1987, which states that it must not deviate by more than + or – 3mm under a 3m straight edge in any one direction.

Wooden sub structures must be sound and securely fixed. They must be a minimum of 18mm in depth in order to be supportive and to meet building guidelines.  (This applies to Ply or Chipboard)

Under-floor Heating:

This product, whilst generally compatable with most Underfloor Heating Systems, is not Guaranteed over one. This is because of the diverse range of systems available and so differing guidelines would need to be issued to cover all. Before using over such a system manufacturers guidelines should be sought and adhered to.

Underlay:

A suitable underlay should be used with all floating floor installations. Refer to your supplier for advice on suitable underlay. Never use a foil backed underlay over under-floor heating.

Fixing:

FLOATING FLOORS: The general method of fixing engineered flooring is by adhering the tongue to the groove, using a suitable wood adhesive. Glue should be inserted in the groove along the edge and header joint of the board. The tongue can then be placed into the groove, with any adhesive excess being removed with a damp to the touch cloth at the time of installation.

FULLY BONDED FLOORS: Alternatively for commercial installation or for installation over under-floor heating, where practical a fully bonded installation would be preferred.  This will most probably require a trowel down application. Refer to your supplier for guidance who can recommend a suitable wood flooring adhesive dependent on the size of the boards.

Expansion:

A minimum 10mm open expansion gap must be allowed for at the floor perimeter and all fixed points to allow the floor to expand naturally. Remember that the above is the minimum gap and the expansion must be calculated as follows.

1.5mm expansion x metre width = min. expansion gap required in mm.

It is important to base the calculation on the metre width, as the timber will expand more in its width than in its length.

Maximum floor run permitted:

The manufacturer recommends that an area not exceeding 10m in floor width be fitted in any one area. For areas over 10m in floor width a natural break will be required to relieve seasonal movement and tension build up.

Finishing:

In the event that the floor is factory finished, please consult with your supplier prior to applying further coats of lacquer or oil.

Maintaining your floor:

Remember to vacuum/hoover regularly. When cleaning with water ensure that the mop is damp to the touch only. Never allow water to air dry. Clean up all spillages instantly.

REMEMBER WOOD AND WATER NEVER MIX
